The desire to install your own devices, and perhaps even remove your vehicle or boat yourself, has increased significantly in recent times.
At a time when devices are capable of more and more and the performance of batteries and inverters is increasing, this is not always an easy and safe thing to do.

In principle, there is nothing wrong with this. It can even be good and helpful to know your system and be able to carry out troubleshooting yourself if necessary.
Especially if you are travelling off the beaten track, a third party can provide support.

However, we would like to point out that, as with the electrical system in buildings, there are certain safety aspects to consider and certain points that must be observed to ensure trouble-free and safe operation.
It is not for nothing that every trade requires several years of training and only those who have gained experience are good.
We therefore recommend that every "DIY electrician" without the appropriate training or background should at least familiarise themselves with the basics of electrics.

Victron Energy offers a good introduction to electrics and installation with its"Wirring Unlimited" booklet.
The back section deals with "wiring", including more complex systems. Every "do-it-yourself electrician" should understand the basics.
The"Immer Strom" booklet deals with autonomous energy systems and answers questions about them, as well as providing examples.


The operating instructions for each device form the basis for installation and operation. Given the wide range of devices and functions, this is also a reference work for professionals.

We are happy to offer advice for self-builders, but cannot offer "cable by cable" support and guide you through the installation.
We can draw you a diagram and offer an installation test with commissioning.
For a professional installation, we recommend our workshop or we can recommend one of our partner companies in your area.


In order to be able to carry out simple measurements yourself in the event of problems or questions, we recommend that every "do it yourself electrician" has at least one multimeter for measuring voltage, but preferably one with current clamps. These are available today for relatively little money.

Without a measuring device, troubleshooting is a blind flight, which we like to avoid. Voltage, current, power and resistance are ubiquitous; knowing and understanding these quantities is the basis for anyone working on electrical systems.


With more complex, networked systems, it is important not to let yourself be led by your idea that something is working.
The possibilities are vast, but not everything is always possible or it was not designed for this application.
