The Victron Multi RS19 Solar is a single-phase 48-V hybrid inverter designed for installation in a standard 19-inch rack. It combines an inverter/charger in a single unit with two independent 3-kW MPPT solar trackers. This makes it a compact control center for stationary storage, backup power, and off-grid systems.

High-frequency technology enables a weight of 12.2 kg with a rated output of 6 kVA. The Multi RS19 Solar can coordinate energy from PV, a battery, and an AC input, power 230-V loads, and charge a 48-V battery using solar energy or an AC source.

Two MPPT trackers for up to 6 kW of PV

Each of the two trackers processes its own PV string and delivers a maximum of 3 kW of DC solar charging power. The MPPT operating range is 65 to 450 V DC, and the start-up voltage is 120 V. The separate control system is particularly useful when module arrays are oriented differently or are subject to varying degrees of shading at different times.

Important information regarding string design: 450 V is the absolute maximum PV voltage. According to Victron, the maximum PV voltage should also not exceed eight times the battery float voltage. With a battery voltage of 50 V, the maximum voltage is therefore 400 V. Module temperature, open-circuit voltage, and the limit values of 12 A operating current and 16 A short-circuit current per PV input must be taken into account during planning. PV optimizers cannot be used.

Grid Operation, Backup Power, and Off-Grid Systems

In a grid-connected system, the Multi RS19 Solar can optimize self-consumption, reserve battery power for critical loads, and—when paired with a compatible GX device—provide features such as zero-feed-in or Dynamic ESS. The 50-A transfer switch routes an available AC source to the loads; PowerAssist supplements energy from the battery as needed.

In an off-grid system, the unit connects PV generation, 48-V storage, and 230-V loads. A generator can be integrated as an AC source, provided that at least firmware version 1.11 is installed and the input is configured according to the Victron manual. Typical stationary applications include tiny houses, alpine huts, mountain pastures, hunting lodges, and compact power centers for commercial and agricultural use, provided that the power requirements, environmental conditions, and installation are compatible with the device.

Operation as a grid-tied PV inverter without a battery is also possible. This mode requires a configured grid code; no loads may be connected to the AC output.


Performance and Battery Charge

At 25 °C, the continuous output power increases linearly with battery voltage, from 4,600 W at 46 V to 5,200 W at 52 V. At 40 °C, 4,500 W is available; at 65 °C, 3,000 W remains available. For short-term load peaks, Victron specifies 9 kW for 3 seconds and 7 kW for 4 minutes, in each case assuming a cold unit.

Under the specified conditions, the AC charger reaches up to 88 A at 57.6 V. The The combined charging current from AC and PV is limited to a total of 100 A limited. The appropriate charging parameters and current limits must be adjusted to match the 48-V battery being used and its BMS.

Communication and System Integration

The Multi RS19 Solar features Bluetooth, VE.Can, BMS-Can, and VE.Direct. Settings and operating data can be accessed locally via VictronConnect and the built-in display. For a system with a Cerbo GX or another GX device, the connection is established via VE.Can; ; VE.Direct is for the GlobalLink 520 or a VE.Direct-zu-USB-Adapter intended.

In a small system without a GX device, BMS-Can can be used to communicate with compatible, regulated batteries. If a GX device is present in the system, the battery is typically connected to its BMS-Can port. Actual battery compatibility and the required settings must be verified using the latest Victron compatibility documentation before installation.

Note the system limitations: Parallel connection is not supported. Three-phase operation is possible with one unit per phase. The current Victron manual also notes that not all grid codes and not all VE.Configure-Assistenten is supported. Check the required features and the current firmware version before purchasing.

Using AC Outputs Correctly

AC-out-1 supplies the designated loads from the AC input, PV, and battery, depending on the configuration. AC-out-2 is permanently connected to the AC input and is therefore active only when an AC source is present there. This second output is intended for non-critical loads and cannot be disconnected via an internal relay with a time delay or programmable control.

The IP20 unit is designed for protected, dry installation. The rack must allow for unobstructed airflow from front to back; Victron recommends at least 1U of clearance above and below the unit.
