Remote Monitoring Set Light with GlobalLink 530 and RuuviTags
The Remote Monitoring Set Light is a compact solution for the 4G Remote Monitoring of Mobile and Self-Sufficient Systems. The Victron GlobalLink 530 transmits measurement values and compatible Victron system data every 15 minutes via the cellular network to the free Victron Remote Management Portal (VRM). A local Wi-Fi network is not required for this.
The set is suitable for boats and yachts, RVs and travel trailers, self-sufficient vacation homes, and remote monitoring stations. Two different Ruuvi-Sensors allow for separate monitoring of a technically demanding area and a protected interior. Compatible Victron devices, more Ruuvi Sensors and appropriate external alarm contacts can also be integrated.
The Components of the Remote Monitoring Set
- 1 × Victron GlobalLink 530: 4G communication device for the VRM portal, with a pre-installed data SIM card and five years of mobile service included.
- 1 × RuuviTag Pro 2-in-1: Fully enclosed Bluetooth sensor for temperature and motion, suitable for damp or high-traffic areas.
- 1 × RuuviTag 4-in-1: Bluetooth sensor for temperature, humidity, air pressure, and motion, suitable for protected indoor environments.
Monitor the engine compartment and the passenger compartment separately
The two sensor models included are designed for different environments. The fully enclosed RuuviTag Pro 2-in-1 is suitable for damp or high-traffic areas. The RuuviTag 4-in-1 supplements temperature measurement in protected indoor spaces with relative humidity and air pressure.
RuuviTag Pro 2-in-1 for Demanding Environments
The RuuviTag Pro 2-in-1 features a fully enclosed housing with the following protection ratings: IP68 and IP69K. It measures temperature and motion and is suitable, for example, for engine compartments, equipment rooms, damp basement areas, outdoor stations, or other challenging measurement locations.
Ruuvi 4-in-1 for Protected Indoor Spaces
The RuuviTag 4-in-1 tracks Temperature, relative humidity, air pressure, and motion. It is suitable for cabins, living areas, the interiors of RVs and travel trailers, self-sufficient vacation homes, utility rooms, or enclosed meter enclosures. This allows you to monitor changes in the indoor climate even during extended absences.
The housing meets the IP67 protection rating. Since humidity and air pressure are measured through a breathable opening, this sensor should be installed in a protected measurement location.
Both sensors transmit their measurements wirelessly via Bluetooth Low Energy to the GlobalLink 530. Temperature, humidity, and air pressure are then displayed in the VRM portal along with the supported system data.
4G Remote Monitoring via the Free VRM
The GlobalLink 530 uses 4G LTE Cat 1 and supports 2G as a fallback option, provided the respective cellular network is available. The pre-installed data SIM includes five years of cellular service. The The VRM Portal and the VRM app are available for free.
In VRM, measurement values, statuses, and trend graphs can be viewed from any location. The data from the connected VE.Direct- and Bluetooth devices transmit data every 15 minutes on a regular basis. This predictable interval keeps the system's data usage and power consumption low.
Monitoring Instead of Programming Devices
The GlobalLink 530 is designed as a compact monitoring solution. It does not allow for remote changes to settings, firmware, or operating parameters of connected BMV, MPPT, or inverter devices. However, the built-in relay can be controlled via VRM.
- View system and environment data in the VRM Portal and the VRM app
- Analyze History and Configure VRM Alarm Rules
- Remotely switching the built-in NO/NC relay
- Use two digital inputs for compatible external alarm contacts
- Existing compatible VE.Direct- and integrate Victron Smart devices
- Add additional RuuviTags for additional measurement ranges
Integrate bilge, operational, and external alarm contacts
The two digital inputs can detect the status of compatible external alarm contacts. Possible applications include bilge and float alarms on boats, door or general fault contacts in RVs, frost and system alerts in vacation homes, or the operational status of a remote monitoring station.
In VRM, you can configure alarm rules and email notifications for this purpose. The alarm history remains traceable in the portal. Victron recommends controlling the system via a voltage-free relay contact or a suitable open-collector/optocoupler output.
Suitable Applications
Boats and Yachts
On boats and yachts, you can remotely monitor engine compartment temperature, cabin climate, and compatible Victron energy systems. The digital inputs can also be connected to suitable bilge, float, or collective alarm contacts.
RV and Trailers
In motorhomes and travel trailers, the kit helps monitor the interior climate, the equipment compartment, and compatible Victron components. This is particularly helpful during extended periods of inactivity, when vehicles are in storage, or when traveling with a vehicle that is occasionally left unattended.
Self-Sufficient Vacation Homes and Cabins
In self-sufficient vacation homes, mountain pastures, hunting lodges, or alpine huts, room temperature, humidity, and selected energy supply data can be monitored. Configurable VRM alarm rules notify users of unusual conditions after the next data transmission.
Remote Monitoring Stations
The set is also suitable for simple, remote monitoring and technical stations with a DC power supply ranging from 8 to 70 V. In addition to environmental data, status information can be transmitted to the VRM via the two digital inputs, as well as supported data from compatible Victron devices.
Compatibility and Expansion Options
About two isolated VE.Direct-AnschlSupported Victron devices, such as BMV battery monitors, SmartShunt, or select MPPT solar charge controllers, can be integrated. Supported Victron Smart products and RuuviTags communicate wirelessly via Bluetooth Low Energy.
Additional RuuviTags can be added, for example, for the refrigerator, freezer, battery compartment, additional living areas, or other measurement points. According to the current Victron data sheet, the GlobalLink 530 supports up to ten additional smart devices via Bluetooth. Specific device compatibility and the “Instant View” feature must be verified before integration.
