Victron Multi HS19 Solar 15 kW

The Victron Multi HS19 Solar 15kW is an integrated power center for high-performance three-phase high-voltage systems. The 19-inch unit combines a bidirectional 15-kW inverter/charger with four independent high-voltage MPPT trackers. This reduces the number of individual components, connections, and rack space required.

The Multi HS19 Solar operates with compatible, BMS-controlled high-voltage batteries ranging from 650 to 1,000 V. It provides 400 V three-phase alternating current, charges the storage system from PV or a suitable AC source, and can supply stored energy to loads, optimize self-consumption, or serve as a backup.

Important: This is not a 48-V inverter. The Multi HS19 Solar may only be used with a Victron-approved, communicating high-voltage battery system within the permissible voltage range. A matching nominal voltage alone does not confirm compatibility.

Four MPPT trackers for flexible PV planning

The four independent solar inputs make it easier to divide a larger PV system across different orientations or shading conditions. Each tracker processes its own PV string and delivers up to 8 kW under the specified conditions. The maximum total output is 32 kW.

The MPPT operating range is from 100 to 600 V DC. If the device is started using only solar energy, at least 300 V is required to wake up the communication system. The MPP current is limited to 13.5 A and the short-circuit current to 20 A per string.

PV Design: The open-circuit voltage of a string must remain below 600 V under all operating and temperature conditions. Each tracker requires an electrically isolated PV string; a single array of modules must not be distributed across multiple tracker inputs. Victron requires matching original Stäubli MC4 connectors and prohibits disconnecting or connecting PV connections under load.

For self-consumption, peak shaving, backup, and off-grid use

In an energy storage system, the Multi HS19 Solar can store solar power, increase self-consumption, and cover peak loads with energy from the battery. PowerControl prioritizes the connected loads and limits the current at the AC input. PowerAssist provides additional battery power during short-term spikes in demand.

In the event of a power outage, AC-out-1 can continue to be powered by the battery and PV system. This makes the device suitable for professionally designed backup solutions with three-phase critical loads. In off-grid systems, it connects high-voltage storage systems, a PV system, and a 400-V distribution network.

Suitable applications include large residential energy systems, agricultural and commercial facilities, stationary power containers, and sites with peak shaving or backup power needs. Suitability depends on the load profile, battery, PV system design, grid connection, and applicable installation regulations.

Current functional status: According to the current Victron manual, generator operation, parallel connection of multiple Multi-HS19 units, and frequency-controlled AC-coupled PV inverters in off-grid mode are not currently supported. Availability and firmware version should be checked again before planning the system.

Compatible High-Voltage Batteries

The Multi HS19 Solar uses the battery management system's CAN communication to obtain permissible charge and discharge limits. It therefore works only with high-voltage batteries that support the Victron HV protocol and are listed on the current Victron compatibility list for the Multi HS19.

Victron recommends connecting the battery BMS to a GX device via BMS-CAN. A direct CAN connection to the Multi HS19 is technically possible, but does not offer the same range of functions. In addition, the specific number of modules or stack configuration must fall within the usable voltage range specified by Victron for the respective battery system.

Power and Energy Flow

The inverter delivers up to 15 kW of continuous output power at temperatures up to 40 °C and 22 kW of peak power for 5 seconds. The maximum continuous AC current is 22 A RMS per phase. The maximum AC input and through-current is 32 A.

On the battery side, the maximum discharge current is 25 A and the maximum charge current is 41 A. At 800 V, the maximum charging current corresponds to a charging power of up to approximately 33 kW. If the inverter and solar controller are operated simultaneously at full power, the device may reduce the PV output and, under higher thermal loads, also reduce the inverter output.

Monitoring and Victron System Integration

The built-in display shows AC input, AC outputs, battery parameters, and the output of each individual MPPT tracker. Bluetooth and VictronConnect are used for local configuration and status monitoring.

A GX device can be integrated via VE.Can for central system monitoring, data logging, and access to the VRM portal. Battery CAN is intended for communication with the battery BMS. VE.Direct can be used with a GlobalLink 520 or a VE.Direct-zu-USB-Adapter be used.

An optional 12-V input can keep the electronics active and support a cold start. Although the device can operate without this auxiliary voltage, it may lose communication if no other power source is available, which can limit its ability to perform a cold start.

AC Outputs and Power Connection

The Multi HS19 Solar has a three-phase AC input and two three-phase AC outputs. AC-out-1 remains active during battery operation. If a valid AC source is available at the input, both AC outputs are active. This allows critical and non-critical loads to be planned separately.

Grid Connection in Switzerland: A selectable grid code alone does not constitute approval. Before connecting to the grid or feeding power into it, you must verify the currently available manufacturer certificates, the grid operator’s requirements, and Swiss installation regulations.

Planning and High-Voltage Installation

The Multi HS19 Solar is designed for installation in a non-flammable standard 19-inch rack in a protected, air-conditioned indoor environment. For cooling, Victron recommends at least 1U of clearance above and below the unit, as well as unobstructed airflow from front to back.

The battery, PV inputs, and AC side are not electrically isolated from one another. Even when the device is turned off, voltages of up to 1,000 V DC may be present internally. Therefore, design, installation, commissioning, and maintenance must be performed exclusively by qualified professionals trained in high-voltage direct current, in accordance with the manufacturer’s documentation and local regulations.
