DC-DC converter for charging a 12V/24V service battery in vehicles with an intelligent alternator.
The Buck-Boost DC-DC converter is a DC-DC converter for charging a 12V/24V service battery in vehicles with an intelligent alternator. As these alternators (driven by the on-board electronics of Euro 5 and 6 engines) do not always output the correct charging current, a DC-DC converter is crucial for charging the service battery correctly.
Furthermore, it is almost essential to use a booster to charge a lithium battery. As lithium batteries have a very low internal resistance, they draw as much current as the alternator can supply. This can lead to an overload of the alternator and/or the wiring. A booster limits this current. Only with the Buck Boost can the charging current be freely adjusted.
