Victron Lithium SuperPack NG 25.6 V/200 Ah
The Victron Lithium SuperPack NG 25.6 V/200 Ah is a LiFePO4 battery with a rated capacity of 5.12 kWh for high-performance 24-V vehicle electrical systems and self-sufficient power systems. It combines cells, battery management, a battery monitor, Bluetooth, and an electronic circuit breaker in a single housing. As a result, no external BMS is required.
The battery is designed for new installations and as a replacement for lead-acid batteries in mobile, marine, and stationary applications. However, chargers and inverters must be configured for LiFePO4, and cables, fuses, and connections must be sized for the actual currents that will be drawn.
The Main Benefits
- Integrated BMS: Monitors cell voltages, current, and temperature; balances the cells; and controls charging and discharging independently of one another.
- VictronConnect via Bluetooth: Displays, among other things, state of charge, voltage, current, power, temperature, cell values, warnings, and historical data.
- 5.12 kWh rated power: 25.6 V and 200 Ah provide a high energy reserve for 24-V loads and inverters.
- High current output: For continuous operation, Victron recommends 100 A; under the conditions specified in the manual, up to 400 A is possible for approximately ten minutes.
- Built-in heating: If the cells are too cold, charging is interrupted; the battery heats the cells and automatically resumes charging once a safe temperature is reached.
- IP65 protection rating: The housing protects against dust and water spray; however, direct sunlight, heavy rain, and exposure to the elements should still be avoided.
Integrated BMS and bidirectional circuit breaker
The internal battery management system keeps the energy flow within the permissible operating limits. A self-resetting electronic switch can interrupt the charging and discharging paths separately. This allows the battery to respond to overvoltage and undervoltage, excessively high or low temperatures, and overcurrent without the need to install a separate BMS.
Two LEDs on the housing provide information about Bluetooth connections, warnings, alarms, and firmware updates. The on/off button can be used to disable charging and discharging; for extended periods of inactivity, the battery switches to a low-power standby mode.
Monitoring and Configuration with VictronConnect
The built-in Bluetooth interface connects the SuperPack NG directly to the VictronConnect app. In addition to current readings, battery and historical data are available. Settings that can be configured include the discharge limit, low-charge pre-alarm, heating mode, and the external feedback signal (EFS).
The included EFS connector can provide an external shutdown or charging signal. This allows you to control suitable external logic, alarms, or—via a properly wired relay—the remote input of a charger, for example. EFS is not a data connection to VE.Bus or VE.Can.
Charging at Low Temperatures
Below 0 °C, the battery does not immediately accept charging current into its cells. The internal heater first brings the cells up to a safe temperature range; charging is then automatically enabled. In standard mode, the heater is powered by the connected charger. Alternatively, in anti-freeze mode, it can draw power from the battery until the set lower limit of the state of charge is reached.
Suitable Applications
The 25.6-V battery is suitable for applications with a 24-V DC system voltage that require high usable energy, built-in battery protection, and local monitoring:
- RV, expedition, and utility vehicles with a 24-volt electrical system
- Boats and yachts equipped with appropriately designed charging and inverter systems
- Off-grid systems in alpine huts, mountain pastures, workshops, or remote buildings
- Mobile workshops and other commercial 24-V applications
With a case length of 871 mm, the 200-Ah model must be carefully checked against the available installation space before ordering. For home energy storage systems or grid-connected ESS installations, project-specific system planning is required; unlike the separate Victron Lithium NG battery, the SuperPack NG does not communicate with GX systems via an external BMS.
Planning, Compatibility, and Installation
Chargers and Inverters
The chargers, solar charge controllers, and inverters/chargers used must be suitable for a 24-V LiFePO4 system and set within the Victron charging window. Victron specifies 28.0 V as the recommended charging voltage, 27.0 to 28.4 V as the charging range, and 27.0 V as the float voltage. The recommended charging current is 60 A.
When charging directly from an alternator, a current limiter or a suitable DC-DC charger may be required due to the high current draw of a LiFePO4 battery. The sizing depends on the alternator, wiring, fuses, and the entire charging system.
Parallel, yes; series, no
Multiple identical SuperPack-NG batteries may be connected in parallel to increase the available energy and range. Each battery and the common main line must be properly fused. The total current of a battery set connected in parallel must not exceed the maximum system limit specified in the manual. A Series connection is not permitted.
Mechanical Installation and Safety Measures
The battery may be mounted upright or on its long side and requires a flat, sturdy surface. Overhead mounting is not permitted. A minimum clearance of 10 mm must be maintained on all sides. In vehicles, the 41-kg battery must be secured against movement using suitable brackets.
