Balcony Solar Kit 900Wp - 600W - for Round Balusters

Use your own solar power—it's simple and requires no permit (but must be reported).

In Switzerland, you can feed up to 600W of solar energy into your home’s electrical system without a permit. This energy is then consumed directly by the connected devices. As a result, less energy is purchased from the power grid. Excess energy is fed back into the power grid.

All you need is an outlet on the balcony and a railing that's suitable for installation.

Our Balcony Solar Kit includes all the components you need:

2x 450Wp solar panels

Micro Inverter

Connection Cable

SolarHook Mounting Kit

2x 1-meter solar extension cables

Here's how it works:

- Attach solar panels to a suitable balcony railing using the SolarHook mounting system*
- Install the NEP Micro inverter and connect it to the solar panels using solar cable
- Notification to the electric utility company with a declaration of conformity
- Connect the power cable to the NEP Micro inverter and plug it into the balcony outlet
- Connect to Wi-Fi / the Internet(Video tutorial: Connecting the NEP to Wi-Fi)

* Tenants, please consult with your landlord

What You Need to Know About Balcony Solar Systems

  • How much energy can be generated with a balcony solar system?

Yield generally depends on three factors.
    - Installed capacity (panel capacity / size)
    - Weather (duration of sunshine, intensity, temperature)
    - Panel Alignment & Shading

With our set of 2 x 450Wp panels, you can expect the following output* (south-facing, vertical installation):

    - Weesen: approx. 800 kWh
    - Zurich: approx. 7,900 kWh
    - Bern: approx. 870 kWh
    - Chur: approx. 910 kWh

This is slightly more than one-third of the annual energy consumption of a single-family home without a heat pump (2,200 kWh/year).

With an electricity price of 40 Rp./kWh, an output of 800 kWh can result in savings of approximately 320.00 CHF on electricity costs.

    * Calculated using thePHOTOVOLTAIC GEOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION SYSTEM the EU.

  • Do I need permission from the landlord?

Balcony power plants are operated by the Federal Office of Energy—recommended especially for renters.

Please check your lease to see if there are any restrictions on installing a privacy screen on the balcony.
It’s best to consult with your landlord to avoid any surprises and the possibility of having to remove the system. It seems that the various agencies haven’t yet reached a consensus on this issue. It is therefore surprising that certain environmental and energy agencies recommend that tenants install balcony solar systems, while others point out in newspaper interviews that the landlord must give his consent.

A solar panel can certainly be compared to a privacy screen on a balcony; generally, no permit is required for either.
However, when installing framed panels, this may be interpreted differently. You should also take care to ensure that the balcony railing is not damaged or scratched. When you move out, the system can be easily dismantled. As long as no changes are made to the electrical installation, there should be no reason not to install a BalconySolar system.

However, different rules may apply to buildings designated as historic landmarks or in core zones.
At certain angles of the sun, solar panels can reflect the sun like a mirror, which may bother neighbors.

  • Do I need permission from the network operator?

No. However, the utility company must be notified in writing before the system is put into operation.
In addition to the name and address of the grid connection, it requires the inverter's declaration of conformity. However, it may not prohibit the installation.

The ESTI (High-Voltage Inspection Authority) requires that, in theBulletin on Plug-and-Play Photovoltaic Systems A Type B residual current circuit breaker (RCCB) in the feed-in line or a residual current monitoring unit (RCMU). The RCMU, which complies with DIN VDE 0126-1-1, is built into our NEP Micro inverters.

  • Are feed-in tariffs also available?

According to newspaper reports, this depends on the utility provider. A survey showed that, for example, Berner Kraftwerke and Elektrizitätswerk Zürich both offer feed-in tariffs. However, the conditions vary. In any case, a meter capable of measuring the feed-in is required. Depending on the system, the cost of replacing the meter may exceed the revenue generated. A meter replacement costs up to 200.-. The Basel-Stadt energy provider IWB, for example, does not offer a feed-in tariff.

  • What happens if my refrigerator isn't connected to the same phase as the balcony outlet?

Today's utility meters feature phase compensation. This means that if your SolarBalkon generates power on Phase 2 but your refrigerator consumes power on Phase 1, the utility meter will compensate for this.

  • Can the NEP Micro inverter also be used in an off-grid system?

Our NEP Micro inverter can be connected to a stand-alone system with a capacity of Victron Energy (MultiPlus with Assistant) can be operated. However, feeding power back into the grid is then not possible, or must be enabled through the selection of equipment, programming, and authorization.
