Victron MultiPlus 12/2k/100-32 230V VE.Bus

The Victron MultiPlus 12/2k/100-32 combines three key functions of an off-grid power supply in a single unit: It generates a stable 230 V AC voltage with a pure sine wave from a 12 V battery, charges the house battery at up to 100 A when an AC power source is available, and automatically switches connected loads between the external power source and inverter mode.

With 2,000 W continuous power at 25 °C With a peak power output of 4,000 W, the unit can also power loads with high inrush currents. The 32-A transfer switch, PowerControl, and PowerAssist make the MultiPlus particularly appealing when shore power or generator output is limited.

The Main Benefits

  • Pure sine wave: A stable 230-V power supply for standard household, work, and electronic devices within the available power capacity.
  • 2000 W continuous power: High output power for a high-performance 12-V power system.
  • 100-A Battery Charger: Rapid charging of a sufficiently sized 12-V house battery via shore power, the utility grid, or a generator.
  • PowerControl and PowerAssist: Intelligent use of limited external AC power sources.
  • Quick switching: Power supply takes over in less than 20 ms in the event of a failure of utility, grid, or generator power.
  • VE.Bus: Enables configuration, system integration, and parallel and three-phase operation using identical devices.

PowerControl and PowerAssist Explained in Simple Terms

PowerControl allows you to limit the amount of power the MultiPlus can draw from a shore power connection, generator, or utility grid. The device takes into account the AC loads being powered in parallel and uses only the remaining power to charge the battery. This prevents the external power source from being overloaded.

PowerAssist temporarily supplements an insufficient AC power source with energy from the battery. If the connected loads temporarily require more power than the shore power or generator can provide, the MultiPlus supplements the missing power via the inverter. As soon as the load decreases, the external power is once again available for charging the battery.

Automatic 230-V power supply

If the external AC power source fails, the MultiPlus automatically activates the inverter. According to the manufacturer, the switchover takes place in less than 20 milliseconds. This allows numerous electronic devices to continue operating without a noticeable interruption. Whether a specific load can tolerate this switchover behavior must be determined based on its technical requirements.

Adaptive Battery Charging

The built-in charger operates using an adaptive four-stage charging curve consisting of bulk, absorption, float, and storage phases. The duration of the constant-voltage phase is adjusted based on previous battery usage. Storage mode lowers the trickle charge voltage during extended periods of inactivity to reduce stress on suitable batteries.

In addition to the main charging output with up to 100 A charging current The 12-V model has a separate 1-A trickle-charge output, for example, for a starter battery. The battery type, charging parameters, battery management, and permissible charging current must be coordinated before commissioning.

Suitable Applications

  • RV and Adventure Vehicles: Central 230-V power supply and battery charging via shore power or a generator.
  • Boats and Yachts: Combination of an inverter, a charger, and an automatic shore power switch.
  • Mobile Workshops and Service Vehicles: Power supply for tools and equipment within the available continuous and peak power ratings.
  • Allotment gardens, cabins, and small island complexes: Setting up a 230-V power supply based on a sufficiently sized 12-V battery bank.
  • Generator-powered off-grid systems: Battery charging and support for limited generator output via PowerAssist.

Suitability for individual consumers depends on their continuous power, inrush current, operating time, and the capacity of the connected battery.

Control and System Integration

About the VE.Bus-Schnittstelle The MultiPlus can be configured and integrated into a Victron system. An MK3 USB interface is required for configuration via a computer. An optional VE.Bus Smart Dongle enables local monitoring and control using VictronConnect via Bluetooth.

For remote monitoring via the VRM portal, a compatible GX device—such as the Cerbo GX or Ekrano GX—with an Internet connection is also required. The programmable relay can be configured, among other things, as an alarm relay or for a generator start/stop function.

Important: Bluetooth and Internet connectivity are not built in. Depending on the desired function, you will need to purchase a VE.Bus Smart Dongle, an MK3 USB interface, or a GX device, along with the appropriate connection cables, separately.

Installation and Safety Measures

The MultiPlus features No internal DC fuse. Victron recommends an external 300 A DC fuse for the 12/2k/100 model. As a guideline, the manual specifies a battery capacity of 350 to 1,000 Ah, as well as 70 mm² battery cable for lengths up to 5 m or 95 mm² for lengths between 5 and 10 m. The specific configuration must be tailored to the installation, cable routing, and battery.

The device must be installed in a dry, well-ventilated location, as close to the battery as possible, with at least 10 cm of clear ventilation space. It must not be installed directly above the battery. Connection, protective devices, grounding, parameterization, and commissioning must be performed by a qualified electrician in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.

Interpretation Note: At 40 °C, the specified continuous power is 1,800 W; at 65 °C, it is 1,200 W. Therefore, when selecting a unit, in addition to the rated power, the ambient temperature, ventilation, and inrush currents of the loads must also be taken into account.
